Obituary for Ilse Roeder

ILSE ROEDER

(nee SILBERMANN)

September 24, 1926- August 20, 2013

It is with deep sadness that the friends of Ilse Roeder announce her passing on Tuesday, August 20, 2013.

She leaves to mourn, her two nephews Klaus Hentschel and Frank Silbermann and one niece Jutta Silbermann, as well as, her great-nieces and great-nephews, all from Germany, and her many, many friends in Canada.

Ilse was born in 1926, in the small village of Kreinitz in Eastern Germany and later moved to Frankfurt in 1945, after the end of the Second World War. She and her husband Kurt (and their dog, Bambi), immigrated to Canada in 1956, where they carved out their new lives in Winnipeg.

Ilse had a true love of all animals and nature, and many of her happiest times were spent on the deck of the cottage she and Kurt built near Lac-du-Bonnet. There she would sit and feed the birds, the chipmunks and the squirrels, and visit with them all as they dropped by for their daily meals. Ilse?s love of life and her kind heart also endeared her to everyone she met, and her extended ?family of friends? always continued to grow.

Her friends would like to thank the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital for their compassionate care of Ilse during her final days.

In keeping with Ilse?s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life where friends will have the opportunity to share their favourite Ilse stories will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2013 in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Ilse to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
