Obituary for Ian Charles Duncan

Ian Charles Duncan
1956 – 2023

Ian passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital on Sunday November 5th, surrounded by his family. Ian was predeceased by his father Chick Duncan in 2004. He will be greatly missed by his wife Jo-Anne, his mother Irene, brother Lorne, sister Laura and his two sons who he cherished more than anything, Ryan and Kyle, and one precious grandson, Hartley Charles. He also had the good fortune of having the two best daughters-in-law that any father could hope for in Vanessa (Ryan) and Erika (Kyle).

Ian was born in Edmonton but grew up in Windsor Park. In his younger days he was an accomplished piper with the Lord Selkirk Pipe Band. He earned his CPGA Golf Professional status in the 80’s and mentored under his father at Niakwa Country Club. Later he joined his brother to work as a professional caddie on the European Golf Tour. This enabled him to spend time with “The Brother” and facilitated many memorable trips all over the world with Jo-Anne. His time on the European Tour was highlighted with stints on the bag with the likes of Seve Ballesteros and Henrik Stenson.

Ian loved to hunt, fish, golf and play hockey. Most summer evenings you could find him in the backyard pool with a DAB in hand and later at the BBQ with a meticulously prepared Caesar.

During the 13 years of his illness Ian faced the loss of everything he loved to do, without complaint. He was able to remain at home until the morning of his passing, which would not have been possible without the unconditional help from his brother.

Flowers are respectfully declined. In keeping with Ian’s wishes cremation has taken place and a private family service is planned.
