Obituary for Honoria "Nora" Bottomley

HONORIA BOTTOMLEY

Peacefully, on Tuesday March 17, 2015, Honoria Frederica Bottomley (nee Sears) passed away in Winnipeg at the St. Boniface Hospital.

Nora, will be greatly missed by her children, Robin (Ron) Muller, Brent (Kym) Bottomley and by her grandchildren, Andrew, Christopher, Michayle, as well as her nephew Bryan (Anthea).

She was predeceased by her husband Lloyd (2003) and by her sister Gwendolyn Gallow (2007).

Nora was born June 23, 1921 in London, Ontario and was the second daughter to Frederick and Florence Sears. She married Lloyd Bottomley in 1946 in Toronto and together they started their lifelong adventure. In 1949, they moved to Winnipeg where Lloyd started his Agency business and shortly thereafter they started their family.

Nora was one of a kind, last of the “Grand Dames”- smart, formidable, opinionated, curious, elegant, and always right on top of things. Her interests were eclectic, she enjoyed painting, politics, business, design, family , friends, the lake with Lloyd, late movies and always had time to read a good mystery novel!

In her middle years, Nora became a career real estate agent spending most of her career with SS Stevenson and Co. She quickly became one of the legendary top agents in the city and achieved top agent status.

Nora loved to travel, specifically Hawaii in the winter and spent incredible summers at the family cottage at Clearwater Bay, Ontario. Here she presided and cherished to the end the memories of being with family and friends around her.

Nora had the “just do it” philosophy. In addition to her career, she spent a great deal of volunteer time as Chair of the Children’s Hospital Book Market, Board Member of the Children’s Hospital, member of St. Agnes Guild, and later in life, a volunteer at the Re-Fit Center.

The later years of her life were spent at the Canoe Club in Winnipeg where she meet many wonderful friends and enjoyed the great care and atmosphere provided by the staff and residents. In addition, we would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their excellent compassionate care.

Cremation has taken place and a funeral service and celebration of Nora’s life will be held on Monday, March 23 at 1:00 p.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald St., Winnipeg.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
