Obituary for Frank Skulimowski

FRANK SKULIMOWSKI

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Frank Skulimowski at Riverview Health Centre on November 15, 2022 at the age of 74 years.

Frank is survived by his beloved wife and lifelong partner of 53 years Sharon; children Michelle (Ross), Jeff (Erin); and grandchildren Emma, Alexis, Brody and Jacob. He will also be lovingly remembered by his brothers Bob (Judy), Max; numerous brothers and sisters in-law; nieces and nephews and friends. Frank was preceded in death by his parents Max and Pearl Skulimowski and his sister Annette Skulimowski.

Frank was born in Winnipeg on March 13, 1948. He was the eldest child of Max and Pearl Skulimowski. Frank’s childhood led him to become independent at a young age and he left home at 14 years old. He began working at Sears Department Store, a company he was employed at for nearly 10 years, until he started a new job as a Letter Carrier for Canada Post in 1973. Frank and Sharon met in the winter of 1969. Their meeting was the result of a blind date set up by mutual friends. They married later that same year on December 27. In 1974, they welcomed their daughter Michelle, followed by their son Jeff in 1979.

Frank’s career with Canada Post lasted 34 years until he retired at the age of 59. He had a strong work ethic and woke up every morning at 4:30 am to get ready for his day. Frank truly enjoyed his job and appreciated the opportunity to be able to work outdoors on a daily basis. He looked forward to meeting and serving his customers each day, many of whom became lifelong friends. Frank was always a loyal member of the Catholic Church and after his retirement he joined the Knights of Columbus at St. Emile Parish. He took great pride in his work with the Knights, volunteering at many events in both the church and the community.

Frank found great enjoyment spending time outside working in his yard. He loved planting and attending to his garden (both vegetables and flowers), and took meticulous care of his lawn. He was often known throughout the neighbourhood for having the “greenest grass” on the street. Frank also enjoyed travelling. His two most memorable vacations were a family trip to Walt Disney World when his children were young, and his son's wedding in Hawaii in 2012.

Frank will always be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and faithful friend. He was a source of great strength for his family and always put their needs first above all else. His children knew they could always ask him for help and he would drop everything to lend a hand. Frank was smart, funny, humble, patient and kind. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He had a twinkle in his eye, a smile that lit up a room and a contagious laugh to go along with it. Even after his diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease in 2008, Frank always tried to look at the bright side, remain positive and keep his faith in God. His grandchildren Emma, Brody, Alexis and Jacob brought him so much joy and happiness. He was fortunate to have the opportunity to spend a significant amount of time with each of them during his retirement years. He cherished this time immensely and loved them with all of his heart.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff on Unit 3C at Riverview Health Centre for the wonderful care and compassion Frank received over the last two years. Cremation has taken place per Frank’s wishes. A small funeral service with close family and friends has taken place at EJ Coutu Funeral Home. Interment will take place at a later date in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation in Frank’s memory to the Parkinson’s Association or Riverview Health Centre.
