Obituary for Gordon Donald Boak

GORDON DONALD BOAK

After a courageous battle with cancer the family sadly announces the passing of Gordon Boak at the age of 77 years on Sunday, May 12, 2013.

Gordon is survived by the love of his life for 63 years, Evelyn (Nickel). Gordon and Evelyn have always been proud of their four children, Susan (Pete), Garry (Margo), Grant (Brenda), Crystal (Greg) and their 11 grandchildren, Peter, Daniel, Chelsea, Alex, Rebecca, Austin, Kris, Darcy, Justin, Bryden, and Michelle. In March 2013 Gord and Evelyn celebrated the birth of their first great-grandchild, Ella (Daniel and Melissa). Gord was predeceased by his own parents, Marjorie (nee Horner) and Donald Boak and his sister, Lorraine.

Gordon was born June 24, 1935 and lived his entire life in Winnipeg. Gord pursued his love of airplanes starting his career at Standard Aero Engine and then Trans Canada Airlines as an aircraft mechanic. He changed careers in 1962 when he was offered a position with CBC as a technician. Gord enjoyed working through the camera lens on a variety of different productions and formed many close bonds with his coworkers. He retired in 1991 after 29 years of service. Gord loved his job and retired from CBC with good memories and great lasting friends.

Gord filled his free time with many hobbies and activities, but none brought him more happiness than the time he spent travelling North America with Evelyn on their motorcycle. They travelled thousands of miles together over the years and spent much of their retirement in Arizona and Texas with close friends.

The family wishes to thank everyone they met at CancerCare and at Riverview Health Centre for their kindness and compassion. We would also like to acknowledge his nurse, Olga, for the special help and support she provided for Gordon and our family.

In keeping with Gord?s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Gord to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.
