Obituary for Giovanni "John" Racciatti

GIOVANNI (JOHN) RACCIATTI

It is with great sadness and with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, Nonno and friend Giovanni at the age of 82 on Friday, April 10, 2015.

Dad will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his cherished wife Maria of 50 years, his daughter Julia (Chris) and his son Roberto (Franca) and his biggest pride and joy, his grandchildren who he loved beyond words – Jessica, Connor, Carter, Colton, Davide and Dante.

Waiting for him in heaven with open arms are his two sons Dino and Davide, his parents and siblings and many other relatives and friends.

Dad was born in Guilmi, Italy on February 12, 1933. He immigrated to Canada in 1957 in the hopes of aspiring to a better life for his future family. Dad had an exceptional work ethic and after working 36 successful years with the Canadian Pacific Railway he proudly retired as a Shop Supervisor.

After retirement Dad remained very active in the community. Dad was extremely proud of his Italian heritage so much so that he was one of the co-founders and the President of the Amici Abruzzesi Association for 22 years. They helped raise donations for numerous charitable organizations in Winnipeg. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus.

Dad had many passions in his life including fishing, gardening, traveling and spending many hours at the Wellness Institute. Above all else Dad was a caring, compassionate and loving man who enjoyed being around his family and friends, never turning down an opportunity to be with them. Dad was a man of few words, however the words he spoke were profound. He will be sadly missed by all those whose lives he touched.

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Seven Oaks General Hospital and the Health Sciences Center for the care and compassion given to dad while in their care.

Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue with visitation one hour prior to the mass.

In lieu of flowers if friends so desire, donations in memory of Giovanni Racciatti may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Pallbearers will be; Tony Ciancaglini, Marziale Di Fabrizio, Giuseppe Conicella, Connor, Carter, Colton Barley, with honorary Pallbearers Davide and Dante Racciatti.
