Obituary for Gillian Patricia Lind (Atkinson)

GILLIAN PATRICIA LIND

Gillian Patricia Lind (Atkinson) passed comfortably on September 13, 2021 at Riverview Health Centre.

Gillian was predeceased by her father Ken Atkinson, mother Kathleen Atkinson, brother Keith and sister Shawn. Gillian enjoyed the many friendships she made as a young girl in her neighborhood and while attending at Maples Collegiate where she graduated in 1985. She was a kind compassionate girl who had a zest for life. Having siblings with disabilities she was always a great help to her mother and she enjoyed spending time with them and had fond memories of baking and spending time in the kitchen with her mother. She had a strong bond with her father Ken and they enjoyed many trips together. As a young woman, Gillian met the love of her life Darrell and his three children Kevin, Samantha and Chelsea and she embraced her new found family of five whole heartedly. They were wed and enjoyed a life together socializing with friends, camping, boating and fishing. She had a great love for music and enjoyed attending concerts. Gillian had a special love for animals, especially her cats and her dog and best friend Zelda who was her protector. Gillian always had a sense of humor about her struggles with her illness and always made the best of every situation. She had a passion for makeup, clothing and jewelry and she always looked her best. She suffered much loss in her life but she found a family with her husband for the many years she was of able body and mind, and well to enjoy all of life’s special moments. As her genetic disposition and diagnosis of Ataxia progressed, she spent the last many final years of her life in the care of Riverview Health Centre. The staff became a family to her and gave her a sense of community and belonging. A heart-felt thank to the staff on the 2nd floor respiratory chronic care unit for all of their care and compassion, time, friendship and love they gave to Gillian always making her feel safe and comfortable and providing her with a quality of life she so deserved.

Gillian’s ashes will be interred with her beloved sister at Thomson Memorial Park and we will forever keep her in hearts comforted knowing she has been reunited with her family in heaven lost so long ago.

An interment of her ashes will take place at Thomson Memorial Park with a private family celebration of life to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Riverview Health Centre (chronic respiratory unit).
