Obituary for Ghislaine Marie Anne Madeleine Guimond

GHISLAINE (GIGI) GUIMOND

(née BISONNETTE)

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Ghislaine (Gigi) on Wednesday,September 25, 2019 at the age of 78 years. Gigi passed peacefully, holding her husband’s hand and surrounded by her children, at Victoria Hospital after a lengthy illness with Rheumatoid arthritis.

Gigi leaves to mourn her husband of 57 years, Ron, son Daniel (Louise), and daughter France (Geoff); grandchildren Sasha (Mehdi), Alex (Jocelyn), Eric, Ben (Chanique); great-grandchildren Zakaria, Minnah, Brody; siblings, Gilles (Diane) of Terrebonne,QC; niece Guylaine, nephew Jocelyn; and many dear friends.

Gigi was predeceased by her mother Madeleine Reid and father Charles Auguste Bissonnette.

Gigi was passionate about music, dance, travel and reading.  She was an outstanding cook, she loved life, her family, friends, and we’d be remiss not to mention that she also loved nothing more than a classy pair of high heeled shoes and matching purse!  She lived life to the fullest, always faced her fears with bravery, had an open mind, and a complete lack of prejudice.

Gigi started work at Royal Exchange Insurance in Montreal in a supervisory role and after marrying Ron in 1962, embarked on a military life that took her on a journey abroad that offered her the opportunity to live in France and Holland and visit many countries including her very favourite Austria.  Upon their return to Canada, Gigi worked for many years at the Ecole Elémentaire catholique Montfort in Ottawa in an administrative capacity and further due to a posting in Winnipeg, subsequently continued her career at the Manitoba Department of Education for over 17years.  Gigi was known, appreciated and respected for her professionalism, hard work and dedication wherever she went. Upon retirement in Winnipeg, Gigi adored spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished her family above all else.

In keeping with Gigi’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service held.  A private family function will follow in her memory.

The family offers their sincere gratitude to our Family Physician Doctor A.S. Abdulrehman, his assistant Jo-Anne, Doctor David Robinson and his staff at the Health SciencesCentre, Rheumatology Clinic, for their care and support over the years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gigi’s name to the Health Sciences Foundation – earmarked Arthritis Research (
