Obituary for Gerald Joseph Tencha
GERALD JOSEPH TENCHA
Born: May 10, 1939
On Saturday, March 13, 2021, Gerald Tencha unexpectedly passed away at his home at the age of 81 years.
He will be forever remembered by his loving wife of 57 years, Doreen; his four children, Leona, Colleen (Clu), John, Paul (Tracy); and five grandchildren, Abby, Lexie, Katelyn, Saydie and Colby. Gerald was predeceased by his parents Philip and Rose Tencha and sister-in-law Claire. He is survived by siblings Joan, Marilyn (Andy), Philip, Gary (Wendy) and Jacqui.
Gerald was born in Winnipeg on May 10, 1939. He was raised on the family farm in St. Norbert and attended the local Howden school, later graduating from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate in Winnipeg. He went to earn a B.Sc in Civil Engineering, and a M.Sc. in Community Planning from the University of Manitoba.
On October 26, 1963 he married Doreen Tallaire. A few years later they purchased his uncle’s farm in Glenlea, MB where they settled and continued to farm to this day. Gerald also worked at various levels within the provincial government, retiring from Manitoba Infrastructure in June 2004, with 39 years of service. It was a difficult decision for Gerald to retire at the time, as he enjoyed going to work everyday where he was known as Gerry and working with the great groups of people he met in the department. After retirement, he kept busy helping his sons on the farm, driving the combine and running for parts. He looked forward to driving down to Kokomo, Indiana a couple times each year to visit his daughter Colleen and her family. Gerald also enjoyed watching all types of sports and news shows and playing with the family cats.
Cremation has taken place. Due to Covid restrictions a private family service will take place at a later date.
