Obituary for Evelyn Manweiler (Dowgan)

EVELYN MANWEILER
(Nee Dowgan)

It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of our sister and friend, Evelyn Manweiler, on Saturday January 23, 2021 at Concordia Place Personal Care Home at the age of 95, just a couple of weeks short of her 96th birthday.

She leaves to cherish her memory; her sister, Nilda Bozyk of Vancouver, B.C.; sister-in-law, Joanne; and her friend, Pearl Smith of Calgary, A.B.

She was predeceased by her husband, Carl, in 1986; parents, Anastasia and Steven Dowgan; brother, Walter (Dixie); nephew, Darrell; niece, Donalene, and brother-in-law, Joe Bozyk.

Evelyn was born and raised in Transcona. She met Carl, the love of her life, and they were married on October 25, 1947. On October 21, 1972 there was a unique double wedding anniversary celebration in honour of her parent’s 50th golden wedding anniversary, and Evelyn and Carl’s 25th silver wedding anniversary.

Evelyn’s first job was at a sewing factory doing piece work for $8.00 a week during the war. She moved on to work at Eaton’s Mail Order for five years, then to Breslar & Warren where her sister had worked.

With keeping with the jewellery, Evelyn worked at Regent Gift Shop in Transcona until it closed in 1978. Her last job was at Zales in Kildonan Place Mall, where she received an award for Canada’s Salesperson of the Month which she was very proud of.

Evelyn was a most compassionate, generous and caring person, always willing to lend a helping hand, especially to her family.

We extend a special thank you to the wonderful, caring and compassionate staff at Concordia Place.

Evelyn, may you enjoy your long-awaited reunion with your husband, Carl.

Rest in Peace
