Obituary for Evelyn Lucie Danneels (Petit)

.

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Evelyn Lucie Danneels (née Petit), on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Ste Anne hospital, at the age of 78 years.

She will be missed by her sons Marcel (Carole) and Wayne (Lisa), her eight grandchildren Roxanne, Patrick, Mathieu, André, Joseph, Joline, Katéri and Julien, and her great-grandchild, Eléa.

She was predeceased by her husband George, her brother Roland, and her parents Arthur and Éliane Petit.
Evelyn grew up on a dairy farm in Ile des Chênes. She worked hard on the farm gathering the cattle, milking the cows, and even helping to feed the hired men.

While she was working on the farm, she met her future husband, George. After they sold their dairy farm, her parents moved to Carmen and bought a restaurant, where Evelyn worked. It was a longer distance, but George continued his courtship. After two years of dating, they were married.

The newlyweds moved to the Danneels farm in Ile des Chênes, where they started their family. They were blessed with two sons, Marcel, and Wayne.

Evelyn had a great love for the farm life, raising animals, and even driving farm equipment. She enjoyed canning and freezing the plentiful bounty of her large garden. Family and friends were always welcome to share the large meals that she prepared.

Evelyn enjoyed talking and made friends with everyone that she met. She also liked camping at the Oasis campground and went on several trips including going through the Southwestern United States with George and her parents and later to Belgium to meet and visit relatives.

Once the boys were in school, Evelyn was employed at the Ile des Chênes School for nineteen years as a Speech and Language Development Assistant. She took great pride in working with the children at school.
Evelyn was very involved with her children’s sports, often driving many teammates to their hockey games. She also volunteered in many community events.

Her greatest pleasure in life was to be surrounded by her grandchildren who would visit her and George every chance they got. She was overjoyed to have been able to meet her first great-grandchild.
Evelyn had many pets over the years, including her favourite companion, Jenny.

We will miss you Mom (Grandma).
We love you very much.

In keeping with Evelyn’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a funeral mass celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Notre-Dame-de-la-Miséricorde Roman Catholic Church in Ile des Chênes. The eulogy will be presented prior to the service.
