Obituary for Ernest George Miller

Ernest (Ernie) George Miller
March 23, 1952 – February 26, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved partner, brother, uncle, great uncle, and friend Ernie Miller, age 70, on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at HSC in Winnipeg after a four year battle with cancer.

He is survived by his partner Billie; siblings, Marlene, Evelyn (Ken), Joan (Ken), Marjorie (Rob), Edward (Nancy), many nieces and nephews; Billie’s children, grandchildren, and family. Ernie was predeceased by his parents George and Mary Jean; brothers and their spouses, Al (Marlene), Tubby (Dugan), and brother in-law Doug.

Ernie grew up in Weston and started his long career with MTS on the phone lines, underground manholes and with fibre optics. Ernie was known as the glass master and was part of the fab five group at MTS. He went out too Ontario to assist with the ice storm in 1998 to work on the phone lines.

In the early 80s he started clearing bush for his homestead in Anola, Manitoba. Many family gatherings took place there where his family enjoyed his company and driving his off-road toys. He loved going scuba diving, off road jeeping with the high rollers club, fishing, hunting, canoe trips, trips to Ingolf, quading, and snowmobiling.

Over the last 12 years Ernie and Billie made 2 trips to the East Coast (which was his dream), spent summers at West Hawk, where he was the resident handyman. They also rented a cabin at Keystone Resort for two months every winter, where he loved to snowmobile and clear the parking lot of snow. Ernie, you will be forever in my heart, and I will miss you dearly.

A cremation has taken place and a graveside service will take place at Brookside Cemetery in early summer. We would like to thank Dr. Graham, Dr. Orgaranko, the staff at CancerCare and the staff of HSC GD4 floor for their kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the Manitoba Wildlife Federation.
