Obituary for Elsie Elizabeth Hudson

ELSIE ELIZABETH HUDSON

(nee NIKOTA)


On Saturday, June 8, 2013, Elsie E. Hudson passed away at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 85 years.

Elsie was predeceased by her husband, George (1976), daughter, Leslee (1998), sisters, Lee (2010), and Gladys (2005), brother, Edward (2000), and her parents, Fred Nikota and Annie Elchuk. Left to mourn for her are her daughter, Beverley Deacon (Charles), son, Douglas (Sharon), niece, Sharon Ross (Dave), and daughter Tara, nephew, Lorne Hudson (Lois), grandchildren, Rhonda, Kevin (Alexandra), Kim (Cameron), and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Jesse, Arianna, Sierra, and Kiara. She is also survived by her siblings, Marge Bain, Anne Juba (Mike), Bernice Fortier, Cheryl, and Marvin Nikota (Iolene), as well as, many friends.

Elsie took great pride in her family, her home, and her garden. She loved to cook and was noted for her flaky pies, cabbage rolls, and Christmas cakes. Elsie grew up in Yorkton, SK, and lived in Montreal, Ladysmith, B.C., and Winnipeg. She worked at the Bank of Montreal in Winnipeg and the Tall Shop and Metropolitan Stores in Montreal. Elsie travelled to Israel, Austria, Switzerland, France, Spain, Cayman Islands, Las Vegas, Disney World, and the Caribbean. Elsie was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary since 1980 and served as President for six years.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 14, 2013 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. Funeral service will commence on Saturday, June 15, at 10:00 a.m. also in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, with burial following in St. Vital Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dave Ross, Charles Deacon, Allan Taylor, Cameron MacIntosh, Mervin Nikota, and Hiato Lu.

A special thank you to all the palliative doctors and nurses who supported Elsie. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Elsie may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Norwood Branch No. 43, 134 Marion Street, Winnipeg.
