Obituary for Elizabeth (Betty) Seol

ELIZABETH ANN SEOL
(nee Van Walleghem)
June 30, 1952-July 28, 2021

While holding hands with her two daughters, Betty danced into heaven on July 28, 2021 after her battle with cancer at Riverview Centre.

Betty was predeceased by the parents she loved so much, Anne (De Bates) and Michael Van Walleghem. She is survived by her two daughters, three step-children, and 16 grandchildren: daughter Elana (Tino Sacino) and children Luca and Isabella; daughter Ivory (Dave Neal) and children Michael, George, and Anne; step-son Brian (Tammy) Seol, and children Brian Jr. (Sara), Carsen, Rowen, and Evelyn; step-son Eric (Sunny) Seol, and children Alex, Natalie, and Sophie; step-daughter Laura Bache and children Shane (Vanessa) Donovan, Ally (Bryce Dickard) Donovan, Melyssa Donovan, and Oliver; and great-grandchild Roman Donovan. Betty is also survived by her older brothers Wayne (Leonne) and Bob (Betty) and was a very proud aunt to her six nephews, nieces, and their children.

Betty loved the sun and sun tanning, so she moved to California when she was 18 years old. She worked in catering and after moving back to Winnipeg in 1985; she managed many restaurants and night clubs before working for the welfare department, from which she retired. Betty was an avid Blue Bomber fan and rarely missed a game in person or on TV. She loved music and dancing so the Folk Fest became home for her and her daughters for over 30 years working at the Fabulous Fruitshake stand.

Betty loved her family and friends more than anything and took any chance to keep in touch with them all over Manitoba, Nova Scotia, California and Indiana. Nothing made her happier than having her family all together, especially at family reunions. She was an amazing grandmother and her grandkids loved when she came to visit. We will all miss her sense of humour, Chinese salad, spinach dip, and pickle juice in everything she made at family gatherings. Betty (Boop) could not wait to get to heaven to see her parents and dance the night away with Wendy while making friends with Leonard Cohen, Roy Orbison, and Van Morrison.

Special thanks to the palliative doctors and nurses, especially her nurse Alex at the Grace Hospital and Dr. Bruce Martin (palliative care) who really were a light and went way above and beyond to make this journey more pleasant for our mom.
