Obituary for Edward (Ed) Chmielowski

EDWARD “ED” CHMIELOWSKI
Peacefully on Monday June 19, 2023, Edward “Ed” Chmielowski passed away at Riverview Health Center.
Ed was born in Winnipeg on September 29, 1946, and grew up in the North End. To say Ed had a colorful past would be an understatement, he was an “affiliate” of the Winnipeg Police giving them a unique perspective from the “inside”.

Ed and Lynne met through a mutual acquaintance and the courtship began. Ed would adopt Lynne’s two girls Jennifer and Debra as his own and soon thereafter they moved to Windsor Park. The neighborhood would never be the same. Lynne’s brother Gilles and his wife Shirley would soon join them in the same townhouse complex providing for many interesting stories and great memories.

Ed was employed at ABD for many years before finally joining the team at Vital Transit where he became the driver’s supervisor before finally retiring in 2019.

Ed was known for his sense of humor and could often be found watching movies of an alien nature…. if you haven’t seen “Mutant Rabbits from Mars” it’s a classic, highly recommended by Siskel, Ebert & Ed. Every Monday & Friday you could find Ed on the couch watching his favorite WWE superstars with Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock keeping him on the edge of his seat.

Ed’s unique ability to tell stories often led to fact checking on Google and many arguments of a humorous nature. It was quite surprising to find out half of them were true! For example, did you know there was a Saint Chmielowski? Check it out, I dare you.

Ed enjoyed Halloween a little bit more than others, often found scaring the neighborhood kids by blending in with his decorations and dressing up as “Roger”, Ed’s version of Michael Myers.

Ed will be sadly missed by his wife of 39 years, Lynne, his children Jennifer Chmielowski (Jason), Debra Langhan (Marty), and grandchildren Noah, Nate, Jory, Hope, and Kaylin. He is survived by Lynne’s brothers Bob (Monica), Paul (Janice), Claude (Jeanne), Gilles (Karen) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his parents Joe & Marie Sedlesky, his father-in-law Leo Giasson and most recently his partner in crime and mother-in-law Agnes Giasson as well as his sister-in-law Shirley Giasson.

We would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Riverview Health Center for their care and compassion during Ed’s final days.

In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Ed’s name.
P.S. Ed’s final wishes were to “Turn the music up and let the party begin! No crocodile tears!”
