Obituary for Edward Anthony Bettens

Edward Anthony Bettens

June 15, 1939 – April 11, 2013

Suddenly but without suffering, Edward was taken from us on Thursday, April 11, 2013. It is with great sadness that his family members announce the passing of their father, loving husband, grandpa (BIG PA), uncle, brother-in-law and friend.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Janice, children: Anthony (Lise), Jeffrey (Sandra), Gregory, Grant Goulet and Michelle Slezak (Kevin); precious grandchildren: Kyle, Craig, Brooklyn, Brody, Brayden, Connor, Mason and Matthew; step-grandchildren, Kol, Jennifer(Leo), Jarrod and great-grandson Elijah. Ed will also be very much missed by his many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles and their extended families.

Ed was a wonderful man, full of humor, and loved nothing more than to have people around him all the time. He enjoyed life to the fullest, even with several health issues over the years, his zest for life never weakened. He loved his family and cherished his time with them. He loved his friends and kept in close contact with so many.

Ed was a hardworking man who spent 30 years with Imperial Oil in Winnipeg, and prior to that worked for Reimer Express. He retired in 1996 and he and his wife Janice moved to Poplar Bay in Kenora in 1998 to enjoy his favorite sport – fishing as well as boating, hunting and the great outdoors. He was fortunate in being able to travel each winter and enjoyed trailering with his brother, Albert (who predeceased him in March of 2009) his wife Beverley, also travelling with brother-in-law Paul and Doreen, as well as with sons Tony and Grant and their families on many occasions.

Ed and Jan moved to Ste. Anne, Manitoba in July of 2010 where they could enjoy a little bit of country and at the same time, be closer to family and friends. Here, Ed resumed his golfing interests and enjoyed many games with his boys and his friends. This winter he enjoyed even more golfing with Paul, Roland and Tony while in California.

A sincere thank you to the Paramedics, Ste. Anne hospital and Alan and Nancy Isfeld for your comfort and compassion.

If Ed were to sum up his life with one small phrase, it would be NO REGRETS.

Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 19, 2013 at Mary, Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive, Fort Garry at 2:30 p.m. with viewing one hour prior to the mass. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Edward to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Manitoba Chapter or to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
