Obituary for Edgar Gerald Freynet

.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Edgar Freynet on December 28, 2023, at the age of 91.

Edgar was born in Sandilands, Manitoba, on January 31, 1932, the son of Achille Freynet and Alexina Therrien. He was predeceased by his parents; his two sisters, Élodie (Balcaen) and Irène (Fabas); his two brothers, Aimé and Emmanuel; his two brothers-in-law, Gilles Balcaen and Alexandre Fabas; as well as his two sisters-in-law, Simone Courcelles and Alice Simard. Left to mourn are his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

In his youth, Edgar played baseball for the La Broquerie Sportsmen. This love of baseball and other sports continued throughout his life. Edgar was an avid sports fan.

At the age of 18, Edgar began his teaching career as a permit teacher. Shortly after, he attained his teaching certificate. Later on, he obtained two degrees: a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Education. During his career, spanning close to forty years, Edgar was a classroom teacher, resource teacher, divisional coordinator, and school administrator.

In his retirement, Edgar became a volunteer extraordinaire. In recognition of his many years of devotion to various charitable organizations, Edgar was awarded the Premier of Manitoba Volunteer Award in 1999.

Edgar cherished his relationships with his nieces, nephews, and cousins, so we were often invited to his home for a special meal or a wine and cheese party. None of us will ever forget his mantra, "une goutte d'amour," when he poured us a glass of wine. He never forgot our birthdays or special life events and was always willing to help.

Our family would like to thank the medical staff at St. Boniface Hospital 4E for the compassion and care Edgar received in his final days, and Roger Gamache for coming every second day to the hospital to give him a shave.

As per Edgar's wishes, there will be no service planned. A private gathering to celebrate Edgar's life will be held at a later date.

A LIFE WELL LIVED
