Obituary for Doreen Gladys Roche (Piper)

Doreen Gladys Roche
(nee Piper)
December 28, 1938 to October 16, 2020

It is with profound sadness and heartfelt sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Doreen, at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit surrounded by her daughters (angels).

Mom was predeceased by her husband, Albert Francis Roche in 1995, her parents Arthur and Marie Exilia Piper, and brothers Stanley, Ernest, David, Edward, Harvey and Allen Piper.

Mom is also survived by her brother Phillip (Gail), sisters Mabel, Edna and Minnie (Edgar), niece Sheila Hinds (Mel) and family and nieces Maura, Michelle and families and many other family members and friends too numerous to name.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Francine Enns (Mike), Jennifer Wuirch (Gary) and Joan Hyra (Randall).
Mom was a loving and caring grandmother and great-grandmother and will be forever missed by Chelsea Parker (Kurt), Chloe and Kieran Parker, Kimberly Wuirch (Brittney), Brody and Brenna Desjardins, Melissa Wuirch, Blaine Hyra and Savannah Hyra (Alex).

Mom was born in Sprague, Manitoba but grew up in St. Vital with her three sisters and seven brothers. Mom always spoke very fondly of her childhood.

Mom and Dad raised our family in “the little brown house” on Kylemore Ave. in Fort Rouge. After Dad’s passing in 1995 Mom stayed in that little brown house surrounded by friends and long-time neighbours. Mom moved to Lindenwood Manor Assisted Living in 2018 and enjoyed new friendships and activities.

Mom became ill in 2011 but rarely complained or felt sorry for herself. She fought through all the treatments, hospitalizations and set backs with great strength, courage and determination.

Our family would like to thank the healthcare staff at St. Boniface CancerCare and Palliative care for their caring and compassionate care provided to Mom. We would also like to thank the staff at Lindenwood Manor for their care, kindness and support.

Due to COVID restrictions a private family service will be held. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to CancerCare Manitoba.
