Obituary for Devon Shaun Ukrainek
DEVON SHAUN UKRAINEK
Surrounded by family and friends, Devon Shaun Ukrainek passed away on June 11 at the age of 43 at St. Boniface General Hospital. Devon will be deeply missed by the light of his life, his daughter Keisha, his fiancée, Kelly and his stepchildren, Emma and Ethan. He will also be lovingly remembered by his mom and stepdad, Marla and Peter Tomman (Pops). Devon is survived by his grandpa Paul Ukrainec (Dauphin), uncle Kelly Ukrainec and family, uncle Dale Ukrainec and family (Salmon Arm, BC). Devon was predeceased by his grandma, Milly Ukrainek.
Devon was born on November 2, 1975 at Women’s Pavilion in Winnipeg. As a child, Devon moved to a variety of locations, Dauphin, Fort McMurray, Surrey, Brandon and back to Winnipeg. Living in all these places didn’t deter him from making friends and playing sports that he loved. Memorable moments for Devon, were playing football with some of the BC Lions and sponge hockey with his Pops. When Devon moved back to Winnipeg, he made a group of buddies that would be lifelong friends, calling themselves the Fab 5.
Devon had many jobs growing up but finally found his calling in transportation. After a career as an Operations Manager he decided to venture on his own and create Squirrel Logistics. He was so proud of the Squirrel as it was so fitting for him.
Devon enjoyed life to the fullest. Golfing with his buddies, slow pitch tournaments, pool tournaments, just hanging out with friends as well as watching his Seahawks play. Devon enjoyed travelling to many places and made the trip to Saskatoon often to visit his parents. He would take in a few rounds of golf with his parents while there. He also enjoyed time with the kids and relaxing at home. His favourite thing was snuggling with Keisha and the animals. One place that brought peace to Devon was the cabin at Longbow Lake that Kelly and the kids would go to.

The family would like to thank all the staff on the 6th floor of the St. Boniface Hospital especially Devon’s favourite nurse, Carol Anne. Everyone was so kind and caring to Devon while at the hospital.
There will be a Celebration of Devon’s life taking place on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Norwood Community Centre, 87 Walmer Street.
