Obituary for Denis Napoleon Joseph Gobeil

Denis Napoleon Joseph Gobeil

March 28, 1931-February 9, 2015

It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Denis Gobeil in his sleep at St. Boniface Hospital on February 9, 2015.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Annette and eldest son Donald. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his sons Eugene (Lee-Anne), Denis Jr. (Laurice) and daughter Lorraine (Paul), along with grandchildren Chris (Jen), Darnel, Dera-Rae, Arion, Natalie, Denis Jr. Jr., Melanie, Mackenzie, Morgan, Justin (Erin) and Colin (Dylan). He will also be dearly missed by his special friend Phylis who has been a great source of support and comfort over the past few years. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to her for everything she has done for him.

Denis was born on March 28, 1931 to Thomas and Emilienne of South Junction, Manitoba. He moved to Winnipeg and met his sweetheart Annette, they married in 1958. Denis retired from Union Carbide (Praxair) in 1988 after a very successful career driving truck and running maintenance. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours cutting wood with his homemade sawmill. He was also an avid hunter and gardener and took great pride in passing those traditions and skills down to his children and grandchildren. Always willing to lend a hand to anyone he was very sociable man who will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

The family extends their gratitude to the staff of Cathedral Manor for all of their help and support during Dad’s short stay there and to the nurses at St. Boniface Hospital for their kindness and care.

At Dad’s request, cremation has taken place and a funeral mass celebrating his life will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 1:30pm in the Notre Dame De L’Assomption Catholic Church, 609 Leola Street. Interment at the St. Boniface Cemetery on Archibald Street with reception to follow at Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
