Obituary for Denis Joseph Emile Chouinard

DENIS CHOUINARD

Peacefully with his family by his side, Denis Chouinard passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020 at St. Boniface Hospital. Born in St. Pierre Jolys on June 30, 1932.

A cherished husband, father, grandfather and friend, Denis, known by many as Pa was a hard worker, who committed to whatever he set his mind to. This included his family, his company Chouinard’s Plastering, hunting, fishing, curling, travelling, classic cars, playing cards and especially a good prank. He loved a good laugh almost as much as he loved his family. Denis had a nickname for everyone. He had a strong moral compass with an enormous heart. He was community oriented, always giving more than he took and he truly touched so many lives throughout his life. He enjoyed volunteering at Tache Centre, Red Nose and many sports events through the years. He loved his cottage in Lac du Bonnet and always worked hard to make it fun for everyone with an open-door policy where everyone was welcome. We all knew when it was Happy Hour and enjoyed watching his favourite teams play with him. As much as he loved the Jets and Bombers he much preferred watching his grandsons play hockey.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 62 years Doreen, daughters Elaine and Karen (Dean), son Dean, grandchildren Cameron (Dinnah), Ryan (Lee), Jenna, Tanner, Jamie (Karli) and great-grandchildren: Tristyn, Rayna, Nash, Koen and Brody.

Denis also leaves behind sisters: Alice Plamondon, Eva Frechette (Raymond), Cecile St. Amant, Adeline Major (Jim) and brothers Victor Chouinard (Cecilia) and Lucien Chouinard, brother in-law Stan Neufeld and many nieces, nephews and godchildren who meant the world to him.

He was predeceased by his loving parents Albert and Alexia Chouinard. Sisters, Therese Hebert, Annette Steingart and Lucille Neufeld. Brothers-in-law Raymond Hebert, Emile Plamondon, Romeo St. Amant and Ed Steingart. Sisters-in-law Denise Chouinard and Clothilde Chouinard. Son in-law Paddy O’Toole.

In keeping with Denis' wishes, cremation has taken place and due to restrictions on public gatherings, a private service will take place. A Requiem Mass will take place when covid restrictions allow.

Rest In Peace Kind Soul
