Obituary for Delphine Irma Lang (Van Cauwenbergh)

Delphine Lang

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Delphine Lang on Monday, April 24, 2023 at the St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 91 years.

Delphine was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Maria Van Cauwenbergh; brothers, Albert, Joe, Roger, Morris, Danny "Porkey", Eugene "Jackie", and her sisters; Irene, Denise, Suzanne, Marlene, Eleanor "Nutcha", and Birdie. Left to mourn her is her sister Judy and brother-in-law, Ray; sisters-in-law, Claire and Stella and brother-in-law Walter.

Delphine came from a large family of 14, and married into a family of 9. Coming from such a large family, there was always something to celebrate; birthdays, christenings, weddings, anniversaries and reunion parties.

Mom and Dad settled on Mission Street, where they were both raised. Many of mom and dad's siblings also chose to live on Mission Street so she was surrounded by family and raised her own children knowing there were lots of aunts, uncles and cousins to keep them happy.

Mom spent the early part of her career working in the garment industry where she was known as an excellent seamstress. Later on she went to work at Club Laverendrye where she worked as a receptionist. She made lots of friends at the Club and stayed in touch with many of them right up until her passing. In her later years she worked at the Saturday afternoon Bingo at St. Louis Center selling and checking cards. She enjoyed her time there and once again made many lasting friendships.

Mom and Dad enjoyed their summers at Caddy Lake Resort where the whole family joined in for BBQ's, fishing, boat rides, long afternoons at the beach, cribbage games, and bear watching at the evening campfire. She loved to go to Club Regent Casino on Saturday nights to play Bingo and her favorite casino game "Wild Eyes"

Nothing meant more to mom than family, and when she became a grandmother to Alana and Jerid a new chapter in her life began. She loved being a grandma and doted on her grandchildren. She sewed them many beautiful Halloween costumes and decorated the yard and house on every holiday. There were day trips to Tinkertown, a trip to BC to visit aunty Linda, shopping trips and just having fun together. Sunday's were family dinners and birthdays were an extra special celebration with appetizers, dinner and then cards and Yahtzee until late at night.

Sadly, mom was diagnosed with Parkinsons in her 70's. Dad passed away in 2013 and her health began a steady decline from then on. Daughter Linda became her primary caregiver, but all of her children pitched in to make her final years as comfortable as possible. Parkinsons finally caught up with her on April 24, 2023 and she died peacefully at St. Boniface hospital with family by her side.

In keeping with Delphine’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street.
