DAVID EARL BURLING
May 21, 1949 – February 4, 2021
Sadly, on February 4, 2021, David Burling passed away at the Poseidon Care Home, Winnipeg, MB at the age of 71 years.
Dad was born in Winnipeg on May 21, 1949 and grew up in St. Boniface, Manitoba.
He loved cars and demolition derbies.
He married his ‘Pretty Little Girl Claudette’ (Dubois) in 1972 and together they had three children, raising them in East Kildonan and later in St. Malo, Manitoba.
Dad worked for Supercrete which later became known as Lafarge, for 38 years.
He loved kids and they loved to be with Uncle Dave who made them laugh. He became
Papa to his many foster children and when his grandchildren came along he was their Papa too.
Dad could fall asleep at the drop of a hat with his eyes half open. He liked playing games and if you won, he would quickly say that he let you win so that you would keep playing.
He would take us kids for rides to look for deer in the evening, or to the car wash to wash the car. We are not sure how, but he had a key for the car wash box and washed his car for free.
Dad liked meeting up with friends over coffee and he always knew the back roads to get somewhere faster!
When we were older he bought us dirt bikes and a motorcycle for himself. We would then go to the floodway and boot around.
Dad had a large scar across his chest, the result of trying to pull apart a cracked coffee mug. Oh the stories he would tell about his war wound!
Sadly, Dad’s health deteriorated over the past five years after fighting a heart attack, kidney failure and within the last month he also suffered two strokes.
He leaves to mourn his wife Claudette; sons, Don (Michelle), Frank; daughter, Jennifer; two special kids, Samantha and John Edwards; grandchildren, David, Amanda, Russel, Brooke, Latisha, Daniel, Jen Jen, Kayla, Tyrone, Angel, Ashlynn, Lailah, Shanice, Shyanna, Maliyah; great grandchildren, Jacob, Rylie, his sister Heather and special cousin Dean Burling, as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and family.
Heartfelt thanks are sent to Poseidon Care Home staff for all their care and compassion.
Unfortunately, Covid restrictions robbed us of many hours with Dad, but we are thankful that we were able to be with him in his last hours.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private family viewing and interment will take place on Friday, February 12, 2021.
We love you Dad,
and wish you were still here.
Tears flow, and our hearts weep.
