It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Claude Lauzé on March 30, 2023, at the age of 91.
Claude was pre-deceased by his parents, Raphael and Marie Lauzé, his wife, Doris (nee Bernier); his brother Denis (and his wife Liz); his sister Mariette Chartier and his brother Alain; brother-in-law Babe, and brother-in-law Johnny.
Claude is survived by his children Guy (Diane Lépine), Raymond (Francine nee Kubinec), Joanne Moores (Gary - deceased) and Charlene Nichols (Brady); his brother-in-law Leo; sister-in-law Michele; grandsons Gaétan Lauzé (Josie Papadopoulos), Blake Nichols and Quinn Nichols; his sisters Jeannine Beaulieu; Armelle Lagassé, Marie; his brother Robert (Clara nee Labossière) and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Claude was born in St. Jean Baptiste, Manitoba and later moved with his family to St. Norbert. At a young age, he began working at Modern Dairies and in 1954, he married his sweetheart, Doris. He later left Modern Dairies to start what became a lifetime career with Furnaceman Heating in Winnipeg which ended with him becoming a director within the firm. He and Doris shared a long and loving marriage of 68 years until Doris’ recent death in February of this year.
Claude had a strong work ethic and providing for his loved ones was the priority of his entire life. He was a skilled carpenter and handyman and almost always had a project on the go. He could build and fix anything and generously gave his time and know-how to anyone who needed help. However, when the work was over for the day, Claude knew how to have fun and enjoy a drink, a meal and laughter with friends and family. He and Doris travelled extensively and they lived life to the fullest.
He has often said that his favorite years were those spent at the Traverse Bay cottage, which he built from the ground up. There they made many close, cherished friendships that last to this day.
Claude will be remembered for his sense of humour, his generosity, and his positive attitude. When asked how he was doing, Claude often responded “I’m great, it’s the rest of the world I am worried about!” Claude touched the lives of all who knew him, and his passing will be felt by many.
A private family celebration is planned.
Donations may be made to a charity of your choice or the Victoria General Hospital in lieu of flowers.
