Obituary for Barry David Fair

Barry Fair
(April 10th, 1961 – August 27th, 2023)

It is with great heartache that we announce the passing of Barry David Fair at the age of 62. “Bear” to friends, family and loved ones sadly left us on the afternoon of August 27th, 2023. The youngest of three boys, Barry was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to David and Jean Fair on April 10th. He loved to fish, camp, golf and displayed a natural talent for hockey. Through both dedication and hard work Barry honed his skill as a hockey player, and would go on to play junior for the King Minors in Thompson, Manitoba. This is also where he would also meet his high school sweetheart, wife, love and soulmate, Lorraine.

After some time working in the mine at Inco, Barry would move to Brandon with his wife and first- born son in order to pursue a career as a systems analyst. Along with his passion for computers, his love of sport always remained and he would later turn that love towards coaching. As both a baseball and hockey coach Barry was beloved by his players, as well as his support staff. So much so that many players viewed him as a second father. In this way, Barry’s impact on the community was large and far reaching.

Whether as a husband, brother, father, friend, grandfather or coach, Barry touched the lives of a great many people and will be sorely, sorely missed. Genuine, wise, funny, knowledgeable, sweet, kind, thoughtful, dedicated…these are all qualities we associate with Barry when we think of him. But to be sure, this is not an exhaustive list.

Barry is survived by his wife Lorraine, children Graham, Sean, Allison (Cory), Matthew, his grandsons Haedyn and Myles, as well as his brother Brad (Cathy). A celebration of his life will be held at 11am on the 8th of September, 2023 at E.J. Coutu & Co. located at 680 Archibald Street in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association.
