Obituary for Athanasia Mikos

ATHANASIA MIKOS

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Athanasia Mikos on January 28, 2013.

She leaves to mourn; her children Steve (Voula), Jennie (Peter) and daughter-in-law Cathy, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, siblings in Greece, brother-in-law Pete (Maria) and many nieces and nephews and relatives in Greece, Canada and the U.S. Athanasia?s husband Anastasios, her son Nick, brother Peter and sister Hariklia predeceased her.

Athanasia was born in Laggadia, Greece on August 14, 1919 and moved to Scoura with her husband in 1942. In 1962 along with her family, Athanasia immigrated to Winnipeg to find a better life for her family and became a long standing member of the Greek community.

After working for many years in the garment industry, Athanasia retired. She enjoyed a long and wonderful life along with her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. At 93, Athanasia never considered herself old and often spoke about how things would be when she got older.

Prayers will be held on January 31 at 7:00 pm at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Avenue with Fr. Theodore Paraskevopoulos presiding. The funeral will be held at the same location on February 1 at 11:00 am, followed by the interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Ernie Mikos, Greg Douklias, Valandi Mikos, Taso Douklias, Chris Mikos and Taso Routsis. The family would like to thank the staff at Grace General Hospital for the exceptionally professional and compassionate care.
