Obituary for Arthur Frank Powell

ARTHUR FRANK POWELL


It is with great sadness that the family of Arthur F. Powell announces his passing on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at Donwood Personal Care Home at the age of 93.


He leaves to mourn his daughters, Lynda Kahara (Eli/Ben) and Karen Crockett (Bill) along with numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, Ruth from Manchester, U.K. and Dorothy from Winnipeg.


Art was predeceased by his wife, Gladys (nee Fawcett) in 2010 as well as, grandsons, William (1973) and Brian (2009), his parents, Joseph and Rosa Powell, his brother, Vincent and sisters, Dorothy, Winnifred and Gertrude.


He worked as an electrician with the Winnipeg School Board. Art loved his Lord and was a member of Calvary Temple Church in Winnipeg and served as a board member of the church for many years. He was also an active volunteer with Calvary Temple Youth Camp (Red Rock Youth Camp) in the Whiteshell and did electrical work on many of the buildings on its site.


Art had an infectious sense of humour and loved music. He could play just about any musical instrument by ear but was commonly seen playing the piano, guitar and harmonica as well as, singing in a church singing group.


A service to honour Art’s life will be held in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street, Winnipeg, MB R2J 0Y4 on Monday, January 12 at 11:00 a.m. with viewing one hour prior followed by a reception.


In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Calvary Temple Youth Camp in Art’s honour c/o Calvary Temple in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
