Obituary for Antony Paul Thottingal

Dr. Antony Paul Thottingal

Dr. Antony Paul Thottingal (Sunny) passed away on December 23, 2020 surrounded by his family at St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, Canada.

He was born in in Parur, Kerala, India January 31st, 1939, middle son of late Dr. T.C. Paul and Brigitha Paul, Thottungal House Kandassankadavu.

Antony completed medical school at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, Kerala, India.
He wed Mary Kannampilly in November of 1964.

He made his dream come true, moving to the United States of America with Mary in 1965 to start his residency in Internal Medicine. They lived in the North Eastern United States including New York, Illinois, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. In 1971, they made a move to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada where they settled and called home. Here he started as a physician with Deer Lodge Hospital.

In 1974, he began his private practice in family medicine with his office at Boyd Medical Centre. He was on staff as Attending Physician and Assistant Surgeon at Misericordia Hospital and later, Victoria General Hospital. He retired from practice in 2014 at the age of 75.

Antony was committed to a life of taking care of others. Not only did he work long hours taking care of his patients, but also for his family. He supported them through all their dreams and endeavors, never wanting more than a car he loved to drive. He and Mary were involved in the Winnipeg Indian community. They are part of the founding members of the Malayali Association of Manitoba Inc. and supported community organizations such as The India School of Dance Music and Theatre Inc and India Association of Manitoba. He loved listening to music, watching movies and music videos, long distance car trips, cat naps and history. The thing he enjoyed most was engaging in conversations with others.

Antony is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary (Omana) and children; Paul (Jennifer) grandchildren Anya and Kiran; Tina (Garrett) granddaughter Amiyah, brother John Thottungal (Lissy, Francis), brother in law K.J. Antony (Brigitha), sister in law Rosy Paul and many nieces/nephews and grandnieces/grandnephews.

A private family funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, January 21 at 2:00 p.m.
