Obituary for Annette Defoort (St. Pierre)

Annette Defoort
(nee St. Pierre)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Annette Defoort at the age of 85.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son Danny (Barb); daughter Lynn (Rick); son Chris; and her five grandchildren: Alyssa, Samantha (Graham), Alexander, Ian and Katelynne as well as one great- grandchild Owen. As well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Annette was predeceased by her husband of almost 60 years Roger, and her two brothers and five sisters. She is survived by her sister Helen.

Annette was born on May 11, 1938 and grew up in St. Boniface, where she was the baby of nine children. She lost her mom earlier than many people do, and so always insisted on hugs from all her loved ones — as big and as often as she could get them.

Annette met Roger only a few blocks away from where she grew up and after a few years of dating, they married in 1958. In Windsor Park, they welcomed Danny in 1962 and Lynn in 1964. After a move to the country, Dugald, they welcomed Christopher in 1973. Prior to having her children, Annette worked at Tache Nursing Home and the Grain Exchange as an Elevator operator and later in the Accounting Department. After the kids were in school, she started selling World Book Encyclopedias, Avon, and prior to retirement worked at Eaton’s, St. Vital. She loved playing bingo, card games, knitting and crocheting.

In 1967, they purchased a small cottage on McConnell Lake in Ontario, where many great family memories were made. After retirement in 2001, Annette and Roger moved to Paradise Village, where the pool was a hit and many long walks were had alongside kids and grandkids. Around this time, winters were an escape, spent enjoying bingo and nice weather down south in Yuma, Arizona.

Mom moved to Appleton Estates in 2018, where she had to adjust to being alone for the first time in her life. She made many new friends, enjoyed more Bingo, Skip-Bo, Horseracing and loved sitting outside discussing life.

In keeping with Annette’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass celebrating her life will be held at Holy Family Church, 778 Archibald St., Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Heart & Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Canada, Kidney Foundation Winnipeg or CancerCare Manitoba.
