It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anne Colville Henderson at the Middlechurch Personal Care Home on Tuesday, October 16, 2012. Anne was predeceased by her parents, Annie ?Topsy? and Doug Henderson, and her brothers Grant and Ross. She passed away peacefully with her nieces Michele, Camille (Terry) and Elaine, and her sister-in-law, Monique (Grant) at her side. She is also survived by her nephews Scott, Craig (Barbara) and Eric and her sister-in-law, Jeanette (Ross). Also mourning her passing are cousins, great nieces and nephews.
Anne was born in Winnipeg on July 12, 1933.
She was a gifted pianist who was awarded the highest honours for instrumentalists when she won the Manitoba Aikens Memorial Trophy for piano at the age of 16. The adjudicator, Mr. John Sterling said, ?Anne Henderson?s playing was ?beyond beautiful?, ?full of colour with superb tonal command?. She was a most talented and artistic performer.? Anne was granted a diploma by the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto: Piano ? Solo Performer, in 1952 entitling her to be styled an Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto and to use the letters A.R.C.T indicative of the same. She was subsequently declared proficient and admitted a Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music in 1953.
Sadly, Anne?s promising musical career was cut short after a tragic head trauma at the age of 22 which left her physically and mentally impaired.
In spite of her disabilities, she lead a full and active life enjoying many activities such as weaving, painting, playing the piano and organ, going to concerts, and traveling to the west coast with her mother, Topsy. She was also very active in the church volunteering with the C.G.I.T., participating in church circles, and singing in the church choir at Gordon King Memorial United Church.
Family and friends were very important to Anne. She also loved her summers spent swimming, canoeing, reading, and playing games at the family cottage at Farlane, Ontario.
Anne had a gentle disposition. She was a sweet, witty, smiley, laughing, generous, innocent, kind-hearted person who demonstrated great courage, determination, and strength of character in the face of the many challenges in her life. She will be missed by all who loved her.
The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff at Middlechurch for the years of dedicated and compassionate care that they gave Anne.
A service will be held on Wednesday, October 24 at 2:00 pm at Gordon King Memorial United Church, 127 Cobourg Avenue, followed by a reception in the church hall.
