Obituary for Anne Hans (Michalczuk)

Anne Hans
(nee Michalczuk)

Peacefully on October 9, 2021, at the age of 100, Mommy joined her husband Stan, parents, Walter and Tekla, sisters Mary and Eva, brothers Billy and Russell, in heaven. She leaves to honour her memory, daughter Pam (husband Jason), two granddaughters and an extended family of nieces and nephews.

Mom was born on June 12, 1921, in Winnipeg. She grew up in Fort Rouge, attended LaVerendrye and Kelvin schools. She was a beauty who worked at the make-up counter and hat department at Ogilvy's in Montreal and shops in Winnipeg. She had her own boutique (the Junior and Variety in St. Boniface) and was a “salesgirl” for her husband’s business, the Model Manufacturing Company on Princess and McDermot. Mom left her beloved Fort Rouge, to move to St. Vital where she lived for 40-years. Mom was very faithful a member of Christ the King Church. Over the years Mom and Dad travelled widely throughout Canada, the United States, Caribbean, and Mexico. Through her travels and Spanish classes with her sister Mary, Mom became so fluent in Spanish that she, along with her sister Mary, were Spanish interpreters at the 1967 Pan American Games hosted in Winnipeg. Mom proudly reminisced that she sat two rows behind the Duke of Edinburgh.

After her husband passed away, Mom moved to Philadelphia where she enjoyed several years being close to her daughter, Pam and son-in-law Jason. Mommy loved spending weekends with her daughter and son in law, going to Atlantic City to try her luck at the slot machines, and enjoying Sunday dinners, “American” traditions, and family time in Philadelphia. For the past few years, Mom has lived in Toronto and most recently at Belmont House. Though Mom lived in Montreal, Philadelphia and Toronto, her home and heart were always in Winnipeg – the city that was to her, the best place, with the best people, and the most beautiful city anywhere.

Mommy, my Gemini twin, we miss you. Give Daddy a hug when you see him.
