Obituary for Alice Dorothy DeClercq (Legal)

Alice DeClercq
October 26,1938- January 5,2024

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Alice DeClercq on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Actionmarguerite St. Boniface, at the age of 85 years.

She is survived by her children; Ron(Louise), Don, Laurie, Charlene(Ian), grandchildren; Jennifer(Anthony),Jason(Tiffany), Ryan(Lisa),Tammy(Greg),Derrick(Kendra), Tyler, Alyssa, great-grandchildren; Jordin, Drew, Blake, Jenna, Emma, Olivia, Paige, brothers Jules(Gladys), Louis(Helen) and sister Anne(Leo), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years George, sister Juliette and daughter-in-law Mary.

Mom was born in St. Catharines, Ontario. When she was just a young child, the family moved back to Manitoba where she lived in various farming communities until settling on Lot 61 in St. Vital. In 1954, she met the love of her life George DeClercq. They were married in 1955 and began raising their family in 1957. Mom had various jobs mostly serving in bars and restaurants, but her biggest accomplishment was her family. Her children and then her grandkids and great-grandkids were her life. She was at her happiest when around her family, always taking care of them, always being the best hostess. Special memories were made over the years camping and then at the cottage. Playing cards, boardgames, roasting wieners by the fire, going to watch the kids down at the beach, or sitting quietly knitting/crocheting all brought such a smile and happiness to our mom.

We wish to thank the doctors, nurses and staff for care and compassion that was given to her these last couple of months at Action Marguerite St. Boniface. You only got glimpses of the mom we knew and loved, but everyone there was so calm and patient with her, that we will never forget it.

We will all miss her more than any words can say.

In keeping with Alice’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street.
