Obituary for Adolph Baraschuk

ADOLPH BARASCHUK

Peacefully on October 9, 2020, Adolph passed away at Golden West Centennial Lodge in Winnipeg at the age of 100. Our thanks to the nurses and staff for their care and compassion to Dad in his final years.

Adolph was predeceased by his first wife Bridget (nee Meeneghan), second wife Linda, third wife Agnes, daughter Frances, son-in-law James, and six siblings. Adolph leaves behind his son and eldest child Michael (Annice), grandchildren Jenna (Premal), Scott (Charlene), Darci (Rick), Garth (Kristen), great-grandchildren Rachael, Kaitlyn, Austin, Melody, and Alaynna, and several nieces and nephews.
Adolph was born in Hodgson, Manitoba, the fourth of seven children. In his youth, he attended school and worked on the family farm in the Hodgson/Fisher Branch area, eventually joining the Canadian Army. He served in the Service Corps and was sent to England where he met Bridget, who he married in 1944. Returning home to Winnipeg, Adolph and Bridget set up a home in south St Vital at a time when the land was largely undeveloped.

Adolph worked as a cabinet-maker and general woodworker all his life. He and Bridget had two children together, Michael and Frances. After Bridget’s passing in 1963, Adolph met Linda and moved several times before settling in a home near Stonewall. During his retirement, Adolph continued to make furniture and was a fixture at Legion dances. After Linda’s passing in 1995, Adolph connected with Agnes and made a home with her in Winnipeg’s north end. The two shared a love of travel and ventured as far as the Panama Canal together.

Adolph will be remembered for his stubborn independence and love of dance – especially at weddings, he was seldom off the dance floor. Due to Covid-19 restrictions a private celebration of life will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at E.J. Coutu Funeral Home, 680 Archibald, Winnipeg. Interment to follow at St Vital Roman Catholic Cemetery on St. Michael Road, Winnipeg.
