Thelma Rebecca Penteliuk
September 28, 1944 ~ October 26, 2018
Peacefully with her family at her side, Thelma Penteliuk (nee Powney) passed away at Poseidon Personal Care Home on October 26, 2018.
She will be greatly missed by her son Ken Powney (Susan), brother Rick Powney (Heather), sister Sheila Taylor (Tim) sister Shirley Lewis (Rick), as well as her nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and her many friends.
Thelma was predeceased by her husband William Penteliuk, father John Powney, mother Lillian Bage, brother John Powney, sister-in-law Eva Powney, father in-law George Penteliuk, and mother in-law Mary Penteliuk.
When Thelma retired from the Rehab Engineering Department at Health Science Centre, she continued to volunteer for various charities and continued her work with the Women’s Auxiliary. Thelma spent numerous hours volunteering in many areas at the Legions she belonged to. She also spent summers at the Legion Athletic Camp at the Peace Gardens. She always spoke so fondly of the wonderful young people she met there. Thelma was a member at St. Peter’s Anglican Church. She also volunteered there and enjoyed being part of the Community.
Thelma was always on the go and so enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Although she has resided at Poseidon Personal Care Home for the past six years, her volunteering continued as she welcomed new residents, delivered books and assisted where ever she could. As was her way, Thelma made some wonderful friendships with other residents. She also continued to attend Sunday services at St. Peter’s Anglican Church.
Her family would like to thank the Dialysis Team and the many wonderful Doctors, Nurses and Aides at the Health Sciences Centre and St. Boniface Hospital that have assisted Thelma throughout these past few years.
We would also like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the team at Poseidon Personal Care Home. Thank you so much for taking such good care of her during her time there and especially for the comfort and care you provided in her last weeks.
In keeping with Thelma’s wishes a funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Peter’s Anglican Church, 755 Elm Street.
In lieu of flower, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Thelma may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Manitoba or a charity of your choice.
