Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

SIMONNE DEVODDER

(nee VANDE VYVERE)

Peacefully on Monday, November 4, 2019, five days before her 91st birthday and after a nine year battle with Lewy body dementia, Simonne left us at the age of 90 years.

She will be missed and remembered lovingly by her daughters Nancy Nilsson (Rick), Judy Vermette (Don); grandchildren Craig (Melissa), Laura (Matt), Kyle (Nicole); great grandchildren Jack, Amy, Tyler, Silas and another on the way in May; and many nieces and nephews.

Simonne was predeceased by her husband Butch; brothers Daniel, Camille, Roger, Jules and her parents Albert and Irma Vande Vyvere.

Mom loved to take care of people. Coffee and dessert was always available for anyone who knocked on her door. All of her nieces and nephews will never forget “Aunty Simonne’s candy cupboard” stocked with every candy imaginable and lots of chocolate. Mom enjoyed gardening so much so, that after Dad passed away she continued to grow an abundance of tomatoes, because he loved them, despite the fact that she hated them. Needless to say, everyone who would visit her left with a large bag of tomatoes. Mom loved to travel with her family and took all of us on many trips, Disney World, Hawaii, and Vegas, to name a few.

We would like to thank all of the wonderful nurses, aides, therapists, cleaning crew and general staff that Mom has had at Riverview through all the years; Jenny, Amanda, Jean, Angie, and Monica to name a few. We will always be grateful for the attentive, loving care you gave her. When we could not be with her, we knew she was in your loving, capable hands.

In keeping with Mom’s wishes, a funeral service will be held on Friday, November 8 at 11:00 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street.

Mom, it has been a long journey. Thank you for the many wonderful years. You will always be cherished, loved, and never forgotten. Rest In Peace.

    Dear Nancy and Judy,
God be especially close to you right now in the loss of your precious mom. I was so saddened to hear of your great loss. This long illness must have been so difficult on her and weighed heavily on you sisters .

I want you to know how much I appreciated and was thankful for your mom’s kindness and generosity. She was a special lady and anyone who knew her was fortunate to have been lavished with love, including me. What a great example of caring for others. She was someone with a lot of energy and determination, spunk and plenty of gumption. I really admired her.

What a blessing and a gift she was. May God comfort you in this time of sorrow.
    Sincerely, Susanne
