It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of our husband, father, brother, uncle and dear friend George Perreaux on Friday, February 22 at the age of 77 years.
George was born on March 27, 1941 in Antler, Saskatchewan to Lenora (Harris) and Fernie Perreaux. He grew up in the rural community of Bellegarde, where he met his sweetheart of 60 years, Georgette Cop. George and Georgette were married in 1962 and moved to Winnipeg shortly after, where they settled in the St. Boniface area and started a family that grew to include sons Roland and Daniel and daughter Nicole.
George was well known in the local trucking industry, spending over 45 years as a service manager and gaining a reputation as the go-to guy when it came to servicing trucks and trailers. He spoke fondly of his days on the shop floor, retiring only when he absolutely had to simply because he loved it so much.
Away from work, George was a talented woodworker who used both his hands and his heart to make gifts for family and friends, including custom-made camping tables and clocks. When not puttering in his workshop, George enjoyed meeting buddies for a cold beer and to shoot the bull at Club LaVerendrye or the Belgian Club.
George will long be remembered for his sharp but teasing sense of humour, and his quick wit brought smiles to the faces of family and caregivers up until his final day with us. We will fondly recall spending time with him in the places he was happiest, whether it was in the living room watching curling and wrestling, at the dining room table playing cards or sharing a cup of coffee early in the morning at the camp site. He especially enjoyed attending the Cop family reunion in Kenosee, Saskatchewan, and always looked forward to the annual gathering of relatives and friends from near and far.
Above all, George valued family. He was predeceased by both of his parents and in-laws Wilfred and Irma Cop, along with sister-in-law Irene Wilvers, brother Ed Perreaux, sister-in-law Bev Perreaux, nephews Darren Perreaux and Clayton Cop.
George will forever be in the hearts of his loving wife, Georgette, son Roland Perreaux (Heather), son Daniel Perreaux (Barb), and daughter Nicole Nicholls and their families. George is survived and will be dearly missed by his brothers Roger Perreaux (Madeleine) and Gerard Perreaux (Leslie), along with a large extended family including the many nephews and nieces he adored and special friends who brought joy to his life.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nursing staff at St. Boniface Hospital’s MICU for their extraordinary care and compassion in ensuring George’s wellbeing and comfort. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in George’s memory to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February 28 at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church at 778 Archibald Street with Father Armand Le Gal, omi and Father Kevin Bettens officiating.
