Peacefully on February 27, 2019, with family by her side, Angela Zinghini passed from this life to the next at Park Manor Care Home in Transcona, where she had been a resident for the last four and a half years.
Angela was predeceased by her husband Joe, her parents Antonio and Rachela Torchia, her brothers George, Joe, Frank and Tony, and sisters Kay Aiello and Margaret Lozinsky, as well as most of her brothers and sisters-in law.
Left to cherish her memory is her sister-in-law Olive Torchia, and brother-in-law Carmelo Zinghini , and his wife Francesca as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Angela was born at the family home on Yale Avenue in Transcona in 1927, a year after her parents and older brothers and sisters came to Canada from the small hilltop village of Amato, in Calabria, Italy. She was the first in the family to be born in Canada, followed the next year by younger sister Margaret. She was educated at the old Central School in Transcona. After graduation from high school she took a secretarial course. Angela was an Executive Secretary for many years at Monarch Life Assurance Company. She also worked for Consumer and Corporate Affairs, Federal Government. She was a career woman at a time when many women did not work outside of the home.
Angela and Joe were married on June 30, 1960 and had 45 years together. Although they did not have children of their own, Angela was a special Auntie to several generations of nieces and nephews. She loved children and children seemed to gravitate to her, as she had a way of making them feel special. Angela and Joe enjoyed several wonderful vacations to Italy over the years; a fun Caribbean cruise with friends; and many trips throughout Canada. Angela was an impeccable housekeeper, a very good cook and hostess, and a stylish dresser. She was very feminine and loved make-up, good shoes and jewelry, anything with a bit of shine and sparkle.
Her family would like to give thanks and appreciation to the many wonderful workers at Park Manor for the loving care that Angela has received, especially Nurses Michelle and Rachael, and also to Joan who had a special way to make her smile and laugh.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., at Blessed Sacrament Church, 710 Roanoke Street in Transcona, with Fr. Rodrigo Lazarte officiating. Entombment to follow in the chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum in Waverley Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Nino Torchia, Bryan Anderson, Nathan Anderson, Andre Leveille, Tony Zinghini and Carmine La Rosa.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Park Manor Care Home, 301 Redonda Street, Winnipeg, MB R2C 1L7.
